It's a well known fact that I'm a huge fan of Linda Kage because her books are sweet, honest, beautiful, funny, unique, and you can't help falling in love with the characters. They are complex and well-thought-out, the pace is steady and the banter between them is witty and crazy funny. That is the case with The Girl's Got Secrets as well.
For me, the concept of this book is unique as it is the first "girl posing as a boy" story for me that has also a feel of rock-n-roll to it. It's Asher's story, baby, and it doesn't disappoints at all!
Remy wants to become the new drummer for the band Non-Castrato to prove to herself and to the others that she has talent and that she can do this the best. So she goes to the auditions only to be turned down at first sight only because she's a girl. But later on, her roommate comes up with a brilliant idea, to pretend that she's a guy so that she can prove to Non-Castrato what a talented drummer she really is. This is how Sticks comes to life, but what Remy hadn't expected was to discover what a wonderful person Asher really was.
Asher, sweet, sweet Asher, is the lead singer of Non-Castrato and one of the most perfect book boyfriends to ever exist. He is like the male version of me because I find myself wanting the same things that he wants: for the loneliness to go away and for love to come my way. He is such a sweet, sensitive and funny man that you can't help but love. I liked how his relationship with Sticks evolved and how sexy he could be with Remy.
Remy plays her parts really well...until her cover is blown. Will Asher find a way to forgive her? You'll have to read the book to see how it all plays out.
I recommend this book with all my heart because it's really enjoyable, the characters are great and lovable, and the interaction between them never disappoints.
