I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

My Review
*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Brittainy C. Cherry is a word magician, a true poet, and her book, The Air He Breathes, is one of the best books that I have ever had the pleasure to read.Having already read Loving Mr. Daniels, I knew that I was in for a beautifully written story and I wasn't disappointed. The Air He Breathes it's a heartbreaking, emotional and hauntingly beautiful read that has complex characters and a plot full of surprises.
Having been victims to the ultimate loss, Elizabeth and Tristan do their best to try to move on. Elizabeth returns home after a few months and finds herself neighbour with the town's jerk, Tristan Cole. He is always angry, inapproachable, but very handsome. He tries really hard to keep Elizabeth at arm's length, but pain recognizes pain, and soon enough Lizzy and her daughter, Emma, manage to lower his defenses and capture his heart.
They start by becoming friends, a part of each other’s lives, and they help one another heal.Their relationship takes a turn when they start having feelings for each other, but soon enough their love will be put to test. Will they come out as winners?
I loved the main characters so much, they were amazing. Elizabeth was both vulnerable and so very strong. It was clear from the beginning that her loss had taken its toll on her, but she kept fighting for and because of her sweet daughter, Emma. She also saw past Tristan's asshole facade and tried to help him heal. Tristan came as a jerk and a dick, sorry Tick, at first, but once he let Elizabeth and Emma in, he transformed into a warm, caring, sweet, protective and sexy man.
You also can't help but feel what the characters are feeling. You laugh with them, you cry with them, and you hope that they will find the light at the end of the tunnel. The secondary characters were simply amazing as well; sweet Emma and her friend, Zeus the dog, Sam, and Elizabeth's best friend, Faye, who was hilarious, but also so very loyal and always there for her friend.
I recommend this book with all my heart. It will stay with you for a very long time because it is so beautifully written and it has everything it needs.

“She undressed me and made love to her past.
I slid into her and made love to my ghosts.
It wasn’t right, yet somehow it made sense.
Her soul was scarred, and mine was burned.
But when we were together, the hurting hurt a little less. When we were together, the past wasn’t as painful to take in. When we were together, I never for a second felt alone. ”
